With innovations in technology and software today, it’s only sensible that it gets introduced to classrooms for young children starting at a very early age. However, relatively little research has been conducted to explore the viability of such tools with young children. Couse and Chen (2010) found that the stylus-interfaced technology in tablet computers could be used with young children to implement preschool curriculum, but focused on the ability of children to write using the tablet. Developmentally appropriate use of digital technology by young children and its incorporation into early childhood programs are frequently debated in the field (Rivera et al., 2002). Research indicates that computers are effective tools for increasing children’s mathematical knowledge (Vernadakis, Avgerinos, Tsitskari, & Zachopoulou, 2005). 2013-09-04 · The use of touch screen tablets by young children is increasing in the home and in early childhood settings. The simple tactile interface and finger-based operating features of tablets may facilitate preschoolers’ use of tablet application software and support their educational development in domains such as literacy.

A total of 41 three- to six-year-old children were videotaped while they used the tablets. 2019-01-01 · Early childhood education and care (ECEC) institutions play an important role in the lives of many children, in providing activities tailored to nurture and support children’s cognitive and socioemotional development. However, there is considerable variation with respect the content and quality of pedagogical practices in such institutions. Learning tablets are specifically designed for young children. Standard tablets are more flexible and may be suitable for sharing with other, older, family members. With the price difference between toy and tablet being so narrow, I would personally opt for a standard tablet – purely for added flexibility – for all but the very youngest children.
