Under senare a?r har han ofta a?terkommit till fotografiet som fo?rmedlare av historisk kunskap och sa?rskilt i relation till Fo?rintelsen. 1997 kuratierte Didi-Huberman am Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris die Ausstellung L’Empreinte sowie 2001 die Ausstellung Fables du lieu am Studio national des Artscontemporains in Tourcoing.

This book is the first English-language study of his writing on images. An image is a form of representation, but what are the philosophical frameworks supporting it? In Invention of Hysteria: Charcot and the Photographic Iconography of the Salpetreire, Georges Didi-Huberman explores the relationshop between photography and psychiatry in 19th century France. Photography played an important role in the way doctors learned about so-called hysteria, often under the guise of objectivity. Didi-Huberman offers insightful readings and criticism of such scholars as Ernst Cassirer, Erwin Panofsky, and Ernst Gombrich, accused of trafficking in ‘canons, ideal entities and transcendental notions,’ not to mention a more general denunciation of unnamed practitioners of a ‘positivist’ art history.” —W.
